We all want a quick and decisive
answer, but the truth of the matter is that each individual has
different needs for their dental
insurance plan or discount
dental plan. It will depend on a number of different things.
Do you have a job where your employer offers you coverage? Do you
need your family covered? Do you have preexisting conditions or
health problems? Is someone in your family going to require specialty
services done? The fact is there are a lot of options to take into
consideration before you begin picking which plan is going to be
best for you.
Dental insurance
has some down sides if you need major dental procedures done. You
may have a long waiting period or may not be able to have that procedure
covered at all. Often they don’t cover anything that is considered
“cosmetic” such as teeth whitening and other things.
Dental insurance will also have high monthly premiums for defined
coverage and it is very hard to even get the coverage unless you
are offered it through your employer. Any procedure that you need
done that falls into “preexisting conditions” your dental
insurance plan most likely will not cover at all. The amount you
pay for many things on your dental insurance plan will be very low
but usually these will be preventative procedures such as teeth
cleaning and x-rays. If you are the type of person who doesn’t
go and get these done as needed and you wait till there is a major
procedure you need you may go over your annual limit and pay heavily
out of your own pocket. Discount dental plans don’t have an
annual limit or paper work, just a card to show at the time of the
services. Individuals and families can easily purchase them. They
get rid of the dental insurance company in the middle and so they
pass those savings onto you.
